Rosetta Funk was born on May 16, 1931 to Marie (Reimer) and Kornelious Funk in Felt, Oklahoma. She attended elementary school in Felt and was also a member of Felt Baptist Church. At the age of 10, Rose accepted Christ as her savior. At about that same time, when her mother became incapacitated due to strokes, Rose took over the care of her younger siblings, the house, laundry, cooking and canning. Rose graduated high school in1949 at Clayton, New Mexico. She was baptized at age 18 at the Baptist Church of Boise City in OK. Rose attended Tabor where she met her future husband, Alvin. The first time she visited his hometown of Mt. Lake she was amazed to see the mountains of snow. They were married on August 13, 1954 in Shamrock, Texas. Rose also attended Emporia State Teachers College. Before starting her own family, Rose taught in Western Kansas, and in the Lawrence, KS area. She also taught for a time in Columbia Heights, MN. She and Alvin were charter members of Mennonite Brethren Church in Minneapolis, MN. They lived briefly in Duluth and Sandstone before permanently settling in Mountain Lake in 1962 where they transferred their membership to Mennonite Brethren (Community Bible) Church. In the late 1980s and early 90s, Rose and Alvin went on mission trips to Kenya (twice) and Taiwan. She was a very active volunteer doing many things including serving on the education board, various church committees, working at Care and Share, and for 32 years, teaching Sunday School. Rose enjoyed reading, walking, baking, and spending time with the greatest joy in her life, her family. She also enjoyed travel and particularly enjoyed the 2008 Tabor College Mennonite Heritage tour to Poland and the Ukraine. Rose is survived by her husband, Alvin, Mt.
