M. Robert Anderson, 85, Mountain Lake, MN died Sunday, January 08, 2012 at Good Samaritan Village, Mountain Lake. Funeral service will be on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Alliance Missionary Church, Mountain Lake. Visitation will be at the church on Thursday from 10:00 until 11:00 AM. The Clergy will be Pastor Dennis Siebert. Interment will be at the Mountain Lake City Cemetery, Mountain Lake. M. Robert Anderson, the son of Walter and Ferne (Whitson) Anderson was born October 15, 1926 in Burt, Iowa. He attended school in Windom and graduated from Windom High School and then attended Mankato State University on an athletic scholarship. Bob then joined the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, where he was the Technical Sergeant and received the World War II Victory Medal. After he was honorably discharged he attended the University of Minnesota and earned an Agricultural Degree. In 1952, Bob married Virginia Sackett at the Windom Baptist Church. In 1955, the couple made their home in Mountain Lake where Bob worked as Cottonwood County Dairy Supervisor for 10 years then was a full-time police officer in Mountain Lake from 1964 until 1987 when he retired. He was an active member of the Alliance Missionary Church where he held positions as a teacher, financial secretary, assistant treasurer, trustee, governing board, Elder and custodian. He also served as Supervisor on the Midway Township Board and the Eventide Home. In 2010 he was diagnosed with dementia and moved to the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Bob is survived by his son: James (Linda) Anderson, of Sioux Falls, SD, daughter: Monica (Chet) Whitson, of St. Cloud, MN, 3 grandsons: Thaniel van Amerongen, of Minneapolis, Niall (Andrea) Anderson, of Mountain Lake and Evan Anderson, of Duluth, MN; 2 great-grandchildren and a brother: Eugene Anderson, of Golden, CO. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his parents, and 3 sisters: Virginia Colvin, Joyce Hines, and Jeri Siddal along with an infant son, David Paul Anderson.
