Lydia Schriock

Lydia Sokolofsky, the daughter of David and Marie (Heinitz) Sokolofsky was born on February 5, 1922 in Mountain Lake, MN. She was baptized on February 19, 1922 at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, and she was confirmed on July 28, 1935 at the American Lutheran Church near Heil, ND. Lydia received her education at a country school near their home near Heil, ND. On February 17, 1940, Lydia was united in marriage to Edward Schriock at Carson, ND. They made their home together in Mountain Lake. On March 22, 1944, Ed and Lydia were blessed with the birth of twin girls, and when they were just 22 months old Ed was called away to service his country for nearly two years. Lydia worked at Tony Downs Foods in St. James, MN for a short time, and she volunteered at the Good Samaritan Village and Eventide Nursing Homes in Mountain Lake. She was a faithful member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #9607 in Butterfield, MN. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting and loved to bake. Lydia died on Saturday evening, December 30, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake, MN at the age of 84 years. Lydia is survived by a daughter, Jane Carley and her husband David of Spring, TX; a son-in-law, Duane Weerts and his wife Viola of Springfield, MN; six grandsons; a granddaughter; 17 great grandchildren; a sister, Stella Curry of Marshall, MN; three brothers, Dave Sokolofsky of Carson, ND, Walter Sokolofsky of Heil, ND, and Donald Sokolofsky of Villard, MN; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Schriock on December 31, 1996; a daughter, JoannWeerts; a sister; and a brother.
