Luverne Margaret Hammer

Luverne Margaret Hammer, age 92, of Saint James, died on December 16, 2023, at Woodstone Senior Living in New Ulm.

Funeral service will be held at First Lutheran Church in St. James, on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. The family prefers memorials be given to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.

Luverne was born December 22, 1930, to Arthur and Jennie (Gasman) Stolze in Saint Cloud, Minnesota. She grew up on a farm near South Branch, Minnesota and attended country school at School District 27. On August 10, 1947, she married Tillyer Hammer at First Lutheran Church in Saint James. Together, they raised one daughter, LaRae.

Luverne worked as a welder for S-T Industries retiring after 35 years. She was active with the VFW Woman's Auxiliary, cooking and catering for more than 30 years. She also volunteered at Mayo Hospital, was a member of the Eastern Star and First Lutheran Church. In her free time, Luverne enjoyed, traveling, especially to Hawaii, time at the cabin on Long Lake, and being around all of her grandchildren.

Luverne is survived by her son-in-law, Hillis "Pete" Peterson; grandchildren, Eric Peterson of Millville, Minnesota, Jodi (Greg) Halvorson of Truman, and Nichole (Larry) Hoffman of Hanska; great grandchildren, Tyler (Iesha), Ashley (Matt), Jamie (Rafael), Benny (Sydney) Benjamin (Angel), Brady, Derrick, Erin (Kreston), Elizabeth (Tucker), Devin (Emily), and Joshua; great great grandchildren Ava, Cayden, Grayson, Aurora, Rowen, Kingston, and Kendrick; and nieces and nephews.

Luverne was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, LaRae; husband, Tillyer; granddaughter-in-law, Ann; and two sisters and a brother.
