Luella Penner

Luella Marcella Fast was born on December 10, 1928 in Carson Township, Cottonwood County, MN to Isaac A. and Tina (Flaming) Fast. She received her education in country school and graduated from Bingham Lake High School. Luella was baptized upon confession of her faith and became a lifelong member of Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, MN on June 9, 1946. On October 9, 1953, Luella was united in marriage to Alton Roy Penner at Bethel Mennonite Church. They made their home and farmed together northeast of Mountain Lake. Following Alton's death on June 11, 1971, Luella remained on the farm with her children, she worked at Fairway Foods (the Franz Store), as a bookkeeper at Mountain Lake Public School, and the Mountain Lake Co-op until her retirement. In 1993 she moved in to Mountain Lake. As a member of Bethel Mennonite Church, Luella was active as a Sunday School teacher, in Worship Sew, and many other church activities. She loved her family and grandchildren, and especially enjoyed watching them in their many activities. Collecting Fostoria glassware, getting together with friends and watching sporting events were among the many things she treasured. Luella died on Saturday evening, October 31, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters Ardella Fast, Rosella Fast, and 3 in infancy; and a brother, Peter A. Fast. Luella is survived by her 4 children, Sharon (Dan) Thilquist of Randall, MN, Charlene (Tom) Kremmin of Milford, IA; Doug (Lila) Penner of Mountain Lake, and Curt Penner of Mountain Lake; 8 grandchildren, Amanda, Eric Ryan Thilquist, Travis, Tricia Kelsey Kremmin, and Abby Cody Penner; 3 brothers, Ervin (Marilyn) Fast of Mountain Lake, Albert (Janice ) Fast of Columbus, KS, and Marlyn (Amanda) Fast of Goshen, IN; a sister, Mary (Alfred) Schmidt of Buhler, KS; a sister-in-law, Esther Fast of Mountain Lake; many other relatives and friends.
