Lucille Mathiowetz

Lucille Marion Mathiowetz, age 92, was born September 23, 1922 to John and Martha (Meyer) Ludewig in Leavenworth Township. She attended country school in rural Leavenworth. Lucille was united in marriage to Leo Mathiowetz on November 5th 1941. They had four sons. She and Leo spent their married life in Sleepy Eye and Springfield. In 1948, the couple moved from Sleepy Eye to Springfield, where Leo established an auto repair business. Lucille has been a resident of Springfield until her death. She worked as a waitress at local restaurants, a sales clerk at Miesen's Color Center, and also kept the books for the auto body repair business. Lucille has been a longtime member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church, serving on many church groups including the Rosary and Altar Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and served as its president. Lucille enjoyed fishing, bowling, playing cards and dancing. Lucille is survived by her four sons, Don (Lorraine) of Coon Rapids; Steven (Nancy) of Goodyear, Arizona; Kevin of Plymouth; and Brian (Peggy Sue) of North Mankato. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Staci (Mathiowetz) Strowbridge, Eric Mathiowetz and Jennifer (Mathiowetz) Walthall and her four great-children-Austin Strowbridge, Jackson Strowbridge, Thomas Walthall and Joshua Walthall; her sister Bernice Augustin of Sleepy Eye, her three sister-in-laws Alice Ludewig of Leavenworth, Phyllis Mathiowetz of Hopkins, and Winnifred Mathiowetz of Sleepy Eye.
