Lucille Martinka was born on September 23, 1921 in Springfield, MN the daughter of Richard and Bertha (Saffert) Eickholt. She grew up and attended school in Springfield. Lucille married Sylvester Martinka on August 21, 1940 at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. After marriage the couple made their home in Sleepy Eye and Lucille worked at Pietrus Produce for 13 years. The couple then moved to St. Paul where she worked as a caretaker at Moncolm Estates for 15 years and retired in 1986. Lucille was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed crafting, camping, embroidering, gardening, and enjoyed life to its fullest with family, friends, and especially her grandchildren. Lucille C. Martinka, 86, of Sleepy Eye, MN died on Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Springfield Medical Center. Survivors include her daughter, Marvisann Becker of International Falls, son, Richard (Rose) Martinka of Sleepy Eye, daughter, Jackie (Jeff) Hofstedt of Superior, WI, 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, sister, Betty (Donald) Yackel of St. Paul, brother, Eugene Eickholt of Fergus Falls, sister-in-law, Marian (Jerome) Koll of Sleepy Eye and brother-in-law, Emil (Mildred) Martinka of Hollister, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Sylvester in 1992, sister, Lavonn Bonnie (Richard) Zapp, sisters-in-law, Ardell Eickholt and Margaret (Stanley) Schnobrich and a grandchild in infancy.
