Lucille Elizabeth Anderson went to her heavenly home peacefully on November 28, 2022 at Living Meadows at Luther-Madelia, Minnesota. She was 101 years old.
Lucille was born March 12, 1921 to Werner and Ida (Schwartz) Hesse in St. Paul, Minnesota. She was raised there with two younger brothers and graduated from St. Paul Central High School in 1939. She attended St. Paul Business College for one year. In 1941 she began working for Cities Oil Service Company where she applied her typing and comptometer skills. In the summer of 1946 she came to Madelia for the first time to watch the 4th of July parade with a coworker. She was introduced there to Bernhard Anderson and they married September 25, 1948 in St. Paul. They farmed in rural Madelia and Lucille liked living in the country more than in the city. She enjoyed watching the birds and wildlife, caring for dogs and cats, gardening, reading, and socializing. She and Bernhard extensively traveled America by car, collecting souvenirs and sending postcards to their many friends and relatives.
Lucille remained on the farm after Bernhard died in 2006 and until moving to the nursing home in 2015. She kept a positive attitude there, and always appreciated the care and meals provided by the staff. Despite failing eyesight and health, she remained steady with her advice to herself and others: "just do the best you can." She maintained deep faith and conviction in her Christian beliefs throughout her life. She was extremely proud of being an older sister and gave her brothers much love, nurture, and wisdom. She carried these qualities throughout her life, helping many people with kindness and concern. She was a charter member of Hosanna Free Lutheran Church in St. James.
Lucille is survived by her loving brother Warren; nephews, Mark (Lori) and John Hesse; grand-nephews, Elliott and Max, and many other nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters-in-law, Elfriede Anderson, Luella Schofield, Marlys (Lavern) Johnson, and brother-in-law, Herman and his wife Betty. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, brother Lowell Hesse, and her husband Bernhard.
