Lowell Steffl

Lowell Joseph Steffl, Sr. was born June 28, 1927 in Northstar Township, Brown County, the son of Sylvester and Philomena (Matter) Steffl. Lowell attended country school near Clements and at the age of 15 took over the family farm. On October 27, 1949 Lowell married Angeline Weiss at St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield, MN. The couple farmed north of Lamberton where Lowell drove a livestock truck. In February of 1956 they moved and farmed near Comfrey for 15 years. Lowell worked in the well digging business until he retired at the age of 65 years. Lowell and Angie moved into Comfrey and have lived there for the past 14 years. Lowell enjoyed attended flea markets, deer hunting, being around animals, playing cards, fishing, vegetable gardening, and always looked forward to being with his family. In 1947 he was the Grand Champion with a Southdown Ewe. Lowell enjoyed history and geography and always remembered having the opportunity to shake the hand of Dwight D. Eisenhower. Lowell died on Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Immanuel - St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato, MN at the age of 79 years. He is survived by his wife - Angie Steffl of Comfrey; children - Mary and husband Tom Tauer of Sleepy Eye, Lowell Jr. (Bud) Steffl of Mankato, Larry and wife Kathy Steffl of Sleepy Eye, Jean Steffl of Comfrey, Sharon and husband Reggie Prokosch of Hutchinson, Deb and special friend Brian Miller of Sleepy Eye, Pat and husband Jeff Gluth of Springfield, Gary and wife Mary Steffl of Stillwater, and Doug and wife Jessica Steffl of Comfrey; 22 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and a brother - Sylvester Steffl Jr. of Starbuck. He is preceded in death by her parents - Sylvester and Philomena Steffl; and brothers - Donald, Kenneth, and Cyril.
