Louis Trowbridge

In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorials directed to the Presbyterian Church, St. James Health Care Foundation or the St. James Humane Society. Louis James Trowbridge, Jr. was born July 30, 1907, on the family farm to parents Louis and Jessie (Vrooman) Trowbridge. Louis went to school at the one room school house, District 52, on land donated by his father and graduated from St. James High School in 1925. He remained on the family farm his entire life. On May 27, 1945, Louis was united in marriage to Loy Shively in Duluth. She preceded him in death in 2000. Louis enjoyed bird watching, hunting, gardening, and fishing on Lake Vermillion. The strawberries he grew on the Trowbridge farm are remembered by many in the community today. After retiring from farming, he and Loy traveled together visiting England, where he researched his family geneology, Alaska and Mexico. He especially enjoyed learning about history through reading and visiting historical sites. Indian culture and the Civil War were his passion. Louis will be remembered by his family and friends as a gentle, soft spoken, generous person with a good heart. Louis Trowbridge, Jr., age 101, of St. James, died on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the St. James Medical Center in St. James. Louis was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother Donald and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his daughters Dulcie (Paul) Lipman of Amherst, MA, Lorna (Douglas) DeDecker of Lexington, KY, grandchildren Aaron Lipman of Boston, MA, Adam Lipman of Philadelphia, PA, Nicolin DeDecker of Athens, GA, and Breonne DeDecker of New Orleans, LA
