Lorraine was born on January 26, 1927, to Edna (Karow) and Romay Graff. She was the oldest of five children: Mavis Simon (late Melvin), Darrell (Cathy) Graff, Donna Mae (Roland) Olson and Alan (Bonnie) Graff. Lorraine grew up on the family farm near Jeffers, MN. She was only able to attend school through the 9th grade as she was needed to help on the farm. Lorraine and her siblings grew up close to their grandparents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins who lived nearby. Because of them, she had many special memories to reminisce throughout her life. Lorraine met her husband, Myrle when her Uncle Gilbert Graff married Myrle's sister Viola. They wrote to each other during the time Myrle served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. They never went on one date. The day he returned from the war, they eloped. They were married on June 19, 1946, at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Lorraine and Myrle worked at John Morrells' Meat Packing Company in Sioux Falls until the spring of 1947. They moved to Okabena, MN to work for the Kay brothers on their farm. Eventually, they moved to a farm by Jeffers, and in December of 1957, they moved to a farm near Comfrey. Lorraine was busy taking care of her family. She was constantly busy sewing, baking, and canning fruits and vegetables. She had beautiful flower gardens and a large vegetable garden. She attended all the band and choir concerts, plays and other activities her children participated in, helping with all the fundraisers. She helped with field work and tending the livestock. In her later years she moved to a home just outside of Mountain Lake where she continued to have beautiful flowers. Mowing the lawn was one of her favorite things to do. She also embroidered many sets of dish towels for kids, grandkids, nieces, and the wives of her many nephews. Lorraine loved her church, The United Church of Christ in Comfrey, faithfully attending and serving until it closed. Many Sunday mornings the front of the church was graced with flowers from her garden. She spent her final years residing at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Lorraine died on Sunday, February 6, 2022. Thank you to all the faithful people of Good Sam who took care of Lorraine. Lorraine leaves behind her daughter, Marsha Pressler; son, Jim (Ardith); daughter, Connie (John) Hughes; 8 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great grandchildren. Lorraine and Myrle were the godparents to Dennis Graff, Marty Simon, Michael Olson, Vonda Scholtz Carnell and Lori Mattison Tews. Preceding Lorraine in death was her husband, Myrle; son-in-law, Dan Pressler; brothers-in-law: Loren, Carl and Melvin Simon, and Gilbert Graff; sisters-in-law: Holly Graff, Viola Graff, Margaret Simon and Mary Simon; and a step-grandson, Tom Hughes.
