Lorraine Petersen

February 20, 1932 — May 25, 2025

Lorraine Theresa Petersen, 93, of Mankato and formerly of Saint James, died on May 25, 2025, at Generations Memory and Child Care in Mankato surrounded by her loving family.


A memorial service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in Saint James on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery in Saint James. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com. Lorraine was born February 20, 1932, to Herman and Theresa (Rachey) Schuck in Sibley, Iowa. She graduated from Sibley High School in 1950. On May 2, 1953, Lorraine married Gordon Petersen in Sibley. Together, they made their home on the family farm three miles west of Saint James and raised four children.


Lorraine took care of their home and children in her younger years. She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church, volunteering in many roles throughout the years. She also delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Women's VFW Auxiliary. She and Gordon enjoyed playing with the same neighborhood 500 card club for 50 years, traveling together in their motorhome, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.


Lorraine is survived by her children, Cyndy (Jim) Hjermstad, Darla (Mike) Honnette, James (Michelle) Petersen, and Keith Petersen; 11 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; brother, Vernon Schuck; sisters-in-law, Elaine (Dick) Phillips and Sharon Creamer; and many nieces and nephews.


Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Theresa Schuck; husband, Gordon in 2008; brothers, Ervin and Lester Schuck; sisters-in-law, Gladys, Dolly, Margaret, and Marie Schuck; and in-laws, Adeline and Hart Story, Douglas and JoAnn Petersen, and John Creamer.


Lorraine was loved and will be missed dearly by her family and friends.
