Lorraine Hopman

Lorraine Hopman, age 83, of Madelia, died peacefully on Monday, March 26, 2012 at the Luther Memorial Home in Madelia Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 31, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church in Madelia with Rev. William Russell officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Madelia. Visitation will be from 5 PM to 7 PM, Friday, March 30, 2012 at the Sturm Funeral Home, Pilgrim Chapel in Madelia and one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Lorraine was born to the late Christian and Marie (Engelbrecht) Jensen on May 30, 1928 in St. James Minnesota. She attended rural school at District #13 and graduated from St. James High School in 1945. She then worked as a secretary for the next few years. She was united in marriage to Donovan Hopman at the First Lutheran Church in St James Minnesota on June 10, 1950. After marriage they purchased a farm southwest of Madelia Minnesota where they farmed and made their life together for 62 years. Lorraine was an active member of the Rosendale Lutheran Church and later the Faith Lutheran church where she taught Sunday school and was involved in numerous church groups. She served as an Adult Leader for the Rosendale Skippers 4-H club and enjoyed her summer involvement with the Watonwan County Fair. Lorraine's passion was flower gardening. Her flowers were beautiful and she loved taking care of them. Their farm site was truly one of God's gardens on earth. She also enjoyed sewing, taking vacation trips with her husband, playing cards and most of all spending time with her family. Lorraine is survived by her husband, Donovan Hopman, children; Jeff Hopman and wife Karen, Nancy Strupp and husband Tom, Jane Piepgras and Husband Ric , Jim Hopman and wife Amy, 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grand children. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Arlene Runge, and brother, Leonard Jensen.
