Loretta Syverson

Loretta Syverson, age 70, of St. James died at her home on Tuesday, October 16, 2012. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday, October 22, 2012 at First Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev.'s Ken Bowman and K. Christian Johnson officiating. Visitation will be Sunday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4pm until 8pm and will continue at the church one hour before services on Monday. Burial will be held at 2:30pm, Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Indherred Lutheran Cemetery in Starbuck. Lorette Annette Hustad was born September 8, 1942 in Starbuck, Minn., the daughter of Tegner Victoria (Hogy) Hustad. Lorette grew up in the Starbuck area and attended Country School District #3 through the eighth grade and Starbuck Public School where she graduated 3rd in her class. She then attended Concordia College where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching. She began her teaching career at the Jackson Public School in Jackson, MN. She married her high school sweet heart Roger Tollefson. She taught school in Morris from 1964 until 1969. In 1989, she moved to Pleasantan, Tex., where she taught 1st grade. In 1989, she moved to Dunnell where she married Gordon Syverson. In 2005, she moved to St. James and worked in the therapy department at Mayo Clinic Health System in St. James. She also tutored reading and did substitute teaching at Northside Elementary. She enjoyed reading, collecting dolls and little dogs. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the Christian Herald Family Bookshelf for 26 years. Loretta is survived by her daughters; Cheryl Stewart of Rockford, IL and Lynn Hermes of Plano, Tx, also surviving are her siblings; Joyce Hustad of Burnsville, Sandra (Gordon) Raup of Roseville, Kenneth (Jodie) Hustand of Morro Bay, CA, Helen Davis of Becker and her companion dog Lily.
