Loren had numerous passions in his life, foremost, his family, his church and his community. An avid golfer, bridge player and traveler, Loren served as a China Marine, city council member, and mayor of St. James along with other community service organizations, including the Jaycees and Knights of Columbus of which he was a 4th Degree Knight. He retired in 1990 after owning and operating Hurley Construction and the Coast to Coast hardware store (TrueValue) for 41 years. Loren was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who touched the lives of so many and will be forever missed. Loren S. Hurley, age 78 of St. James, passed away suddenly on August 27, 2006. He was preceded in death by his mother, Valeria, and sisters, Caroline Daugherty and LaVon Goor. He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Eunice 'Jackie'of St. James, children Janelle (Roger) Paulson of Elk River, Gwen (Al) Sampson of Hibbing, and Craig (Tracy) Hurley of St. James and grandchildren Abbey Paulson and fiancee Karl Engebretson of St. Paul, Karl Paulson of Duluth as well as brothers Neil (Vi) Hurley of Kissimee, FL, Darrell 'Joe' Hurley and special friend Janet of Sunburg, LowWell (Marsha) Hurley of St. James, Arlo (Kathy) Hurley of Mankato, sister LeiLani Hurley of St. James and brothers-in-law, Harold Daugherty and Ed Goor both of Mankato.
