Loren George Groff, age 85, of Springfield, MN, died on August 3, 2025, at the New Ulm Medical Center.
Visitation will be on Monday, the 18th of August, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Springfield Community Center in Springfield, MN. A Memorial Service will be held at the Springfield Community Center in Springfield, MN on Monday at 10:30. Interment will be at the St. Raphael Catholic Cemetery in Springfield, MN.
Loren George Groff was born at St. John's Hospital in Springfield MN on December 14,1939, to Rangvold and Margaret (Prom)Groff. Loren attended country school until the 8th grade. He then was needed to help on the family farm. Loren served in the US National Guard from 1957-1965. Later in life, Loren received his GED and also attended Mankato Technical College, earning a diploma in accounting & bookkeeping.
Through marriages, Loren was blessed with 9 children, 19 Grandchildren, and 9 Great Grandchildren , all of whom he loved spending time with.
He was a dedicated truck driver for over 36 years, working for Sanborn Implement, Halter Trucking, and D&A Trucking. Proudly logging in 5 million miles in his career!!
After retirement, Loren put his all into being a full-time volunteer. He served the Kingman Arizona Area Food Shelf, volunteered at Lutheran Island Camp in Battle Lake, MN as a bus driver & yard maintenance man, did countless activities at Springfield St John's Nursing Home, flipped burgers for the girls softball team, and served on various other volunteer opportunities as well.
Loren had a serving heart and a generous spirit. He was an usher/greeter at the nursing home chapel for the past 15 years. Loren traveled to the Jamaica Boys' Home to do mission work 6 times. He was a true example of what it meant to be a friend and to help others.
Loren loved spending time with his family, playing polish poker, and telling jokes. He treasured visits with friends, playing bingo and joining in on various activities at St. John's Home. He was an avid reader, sports fan, teddy bear collector and loved the Lord.
He is survived by his children - Donna (Dennis) Rothwell of Clara City, MN, Dennis (Denise) Groff of Fort Mohave, AZ, Deb Birch of Belgrade, MN, David (Lori) Groff of Perham, MN, Jake (Emma)Groff of Middlburry, IN, LIz Vedbraatan of Thief River Falls, MN, and Lacey Groff of Thief River Falls, MN; a son-in-law - Eric Amundson of Clarkfield, MN; grandchildren - Brad (Abby) Rothwell, Barry Rothwell, Charles (Jazzmyn) Rothwell, Derek (Megan) Amundson, Kyle Amundson, Justin (Brandy) Groff Keirstan (Brandon) Henneger, Jordon Brooks, Bailey Brooks, Austin (Allie) Birch, Brady Birch, Cody Bertram, Chelsea Bertram, Tristan (Emmee) Groff, Malia (Dylan) Maneval, Joselynn, Logan, William and Tanner Vedbraatan; great grandchildren - Titus, Jace, and Khloe Rothwell, Emma Rothwell, Wyley Amundson, Maverick and Colt Groff, Bentley Hennger and Flynn Brooks; a brother - Sheldon (Sharron) Groff. He was proceeded in death by his parents; wife - Dorothy; daughters - Darlene and Diane and a baby girl in infancy, family angel babies; siblings - Shirley (Bennett) Juenemann and Angeline (Tony) Kidrowski.
