Lonny Gene Eads

November 9, 1939 — September 17, 2024

Lonny G. Eads, age 84 of Hudson, Wisconsin, formerly of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, passed away at Red Cedar Canyon assisted living facility in Hudson. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 30, 2024, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake. A memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm. The clergy will be Pastor Rick Bremseth. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.

Lonny Gene Eads, son of Arden and Doris (Spies) Eads was born in Worthington, Minnesota, on November 9, 1939.  He received his education at the Beaver Creek Public School in Beaver Creek, Minnesota, and Mankato State College, Mankato, Minnesota, from which he received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961.

Lonny was baptized at the Presbyterian Church in Beaver Creek and later confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota.  He has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mountain Lake, Minnesota, for the last 58 years where he served as head usher for many years, a term as treasurer, and helped with Bible studies and confirmation instruction.

On August 6, 1961, Lonny was united in marriage to Constance C. Baarts at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Truman, Minnesota.  After their marriage, Lonny taught industrial arts at Russell, Magnolia, and Mountain Lake.  He also taught driver’s education, set up and taught gun safety classes for over 30 years, was a member of the Mountain Lake Sportsman’s Club, The Mountain Lake Lake Commission, the NRA, and an Honorary FFA member.  He had a Federal Firearms License for many years and enjoyed cleaning and fixing guns and fashioning and finishing gun stocks to fit.  Former students remember the days when many brought their guns to school to work on them.  In later years, he took on the job as caretaker of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Lonny enjoyed hunting and fishing with his like-minded buddies, going on family summer vacations to Nor’Wester Lodge near Grand Marais, Berry Island on Burntside Lake near Ely, and Lake Andrew at Alexandria.  He also enjoyed planning family mystery trips with Connie and going on many bus tours. He liked to go on his rides around town to keep up with all that was going on.  He had an engaging smile and was the master of “Lonny-isms” such as “Do you think there are fish in that lake?”

On April 17, 2023, he took up residence at Red Cedar Canyon assisted living facility in Hudson, Wisconsin, but shortly thereafter was transferred into its Memory Care unit.  On September 13, 2024, he fell and broke his hip and passed away at Red Cedar Canyon on September 17, 2024.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Connie of Hudson; one daughter and son-in-law, Jill and John Hart of Hudson; one daughter-in-law, Candace Eads; and grandchildren, Severin and Eden Eads all of New Richland, Minnesota; special friend, Ken Classen of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; one brother, Dale (Jan) Eads of Luverne, Minnesota; other relatives and friends; and the staff of Red Cedar Canyon and Moments Hospice who were so loving to him.  He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Eads; his parents; and brothers, Richard and Gary Eads.
