Lois Kathleen Ruth Ross was born on August 18, 1928 to Harry and Alma (Thorson) Reno in Minneapolis, MN. She graduated from Marshall High School in Southeast Minneapolis and completed the teaching program at Miss Woods School in 1946. After graduation, she taught 2nd grade in Mountain Lake until 1950, when she married Bayer Ross of Mt. Lake. They were blessed with three sons. Lois substituted in the Mt. Lake School district until 1965. For 17 years she worked as a clerk at Lehman Rexall Drug. Drawing from her teaching skills, Lois became an activities director, first at Eventide Home in Mt. Lake and later at Christian Union Home in Mpls. Lois was a dedicated volunteer and received the 2011 Outstanding Senior Citizen Award for Cottonwood County. She worked with Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), drove many people to appointments, and distributed food for Second Harvest. She also volunteered her time at elder care facilities, the Windom Developmental Achievement Center (DAC) where she read to people, and she loved serving as a guide at the Heritage Village in Mt. Lake. In a 2010 article honoring three senior volunteers, Lois is quoted as saying, It's all about doing things with others so they don't feel so lonely. Lois Ross is survived by her sons: David (Carol) Ross, Mankato, Jon (Barb) Ross, Owatonna, and Steve (Vicki) Ross, Pennington, brother, Paul (Betty) Arneson, Fort Washington, MD, four grandchildren: Erica, Lindsey, Forrest, and Axel, and three great-grandchildren: Lana, Elliot, and Mila.
