Logan J. Sizer, age 60, of Darfur, Minnesota died on Monday, April 8, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Visitation will be on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Sturm Funeral Home, St. James Chapel and will continue on Saturday from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James. A memorial service will be held at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:00 am. The clergy will be Rev. Mandy France. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Logan Joe Sizer, the son of Jim and Judy (Renner) Sizer, was born on September 18, 1963, in Madelia, Minnesota. He grew up in St. James and graduated from St. James High School the Class of 1982. On August 16, 1991, Logan married the love of his life, Joyce Hippen. They were blessed with two sons, Ty and Levi.
Logan taught his sons the value of working hard. He worked for Watonwan County Highway Department, starting out seasonal for the public works department, was hired full-time at the courthouse and shortly after took a full-time Heavy Equipment Operator position, he worked for the county for over 39 years, retiring in September of 2023. He was a talented blade man and continued blading gravel roads for Adrian township even after retirement. Helping others was important to Logan and he was a volunteer firefighter for 30 years with the Darfur Fire Department.
Being an avid outdoorsman, Logan cherished the time he spent hunting, fishing, gardening, and camping with his family, friends, and his dog, Foxy. He particularly enjoyed the trips up north grouse hunting with his cousin Mary's family and all the late nights playing pfeffer, the trips out west to visit his brother-in-law, Jay and Michelle in West Yellowstone, MT and the trip to Arizona with his wife Joyce, sister-in-law Jean and her husband Tim. He was a discerning collector of guns and a true marksman. He enjoyed shooting those guns with his sons and other family members and friends. He enjoyed playing pool and taking trips to Las Vegas to play.
Logan could always be counted on for solid advice, a good laugh and created a welcoming place in his garage for friends and family to visit him. He was a dedicated son and would visit his mother and mother-in-law many days after work.
Logan was a beloved husband, dad, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be forever loved and missed beyond measure.
Logan is survived by his wife, Joyce Sizer of Darfur; sons, Ty Sizer and Levi Sizer, both of St. James; mother, Judy Sizer of St. James; sisters, Jana (Doug) Anderson of St. James and Jodi (David) Coleman of Fairfax; sister-in-law, Jean (Tim) Nelson of St. James; brother-in-law, Jay Hippen (special friend Michelle Marsden) of West Yellowstone, MT; many nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jim Sizer; brother, Mike Sizer; father-in-law, Henry Hippen; mother-in-law, LaMae Hippen; and brother-in-law, Jerry Hippen.
