Lloyd Pete G. Sletta was born October 7, 1917 in Riverdale Township, the son of Alfred and Marie (Larson) Sletta. He attended and graduated from St. James High School and helped his family at the Sletta Store in LaSalle. Pete entered the U.S. Army and served in Siapan as a Cook and was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked in California before returning to LaSalle where he started Sletta Brothers Construction with his brother Arnold Coogan. They worked together until their retirement. He was a member of a LaSalle Lutheran Church. Pete enjoyed playing cards, watching baseball and football, fishing, hunting, woodworking, and thrashing bees. Pete died on Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at the St. James Health Services at the age of 88 years. He is survived by his sister-in-law - Ruth Sletta of St. James; nephews - Robert and wife Carol of Park City, UT and Mark and wife Amy Sletta of Park City, UT; nieces - Joanell and husband Marvin Dyrstad of Red Wing, MN and Gwendolyn and husband Harley Branstad of LaSalle, MN and their family. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers - Ingvald, Lawrence, and Arnold; sisters - Signe and Alice. Memorials are preferred to the LaSalle Cemetery Association.
