Linus Weiss

Linus William Weiss, age 91 was called to his eternal rest on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Divine Providence Community Home in Sleepy Eye where he resided for 1 years. Linus was born in Sleepy Eye, MN on May 9, 1923 to Lawrence and Anna (Saffert) Weiss, the second of eight children. He attended country school through the 8th grade. He worked as a farm hand for various farmers until he was drafted into the U.S. Army for service in WWII. He served almost two years as a SGT on the enemy lines in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged when the war ended in 1946. He married Monica Sieg three days prior to his drafting date on October 9, 1944. They lived their entire life in Sleepy Eye, MN and resided in his home for 68 years. They were blessed with 12 children. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He worked for Del Monte Corporation for a short time upon return from the service, and then worked 41 years full time for Farmers Elevator of Sleepy Eye. He continued to work during the spring and harvest seasons for the Farmers Elevator for an additional 6 plus years. In his retirement years he enjoyed going to his lake home and gardening. He is survived by 11 of his 12 children: Donna Weiss of Gaylord, Marvin (Maralee) Weiss of Sleepy Eye, Stephen Gar Weiss of Sleepy Eye, Patty (Clete) Tauer of Sleepy Eye, Janet Nachreiner (fianc Jim Wager) of Fairfax, MaryAnn Fischer (special friend Jerry Baumann) of Sleepy Eye, Julie (Eugene) Hildebrandt of St. James, Audrey (Ken) Ruud of Springfield, MO, Jeannie (Brad) Hietanen of Buffalo, MN, Richard Weiss of Sleepy Eye and Brenda (Mike) Stimpert of Sleepy Eye, 25 grandchildren: Karl (Jill) Weiss, Kevin Weiss, Bryan (Naomi) Weiss, Michael (Peggy) Tauer, Jeremy (Rachel) Tauer, Krissy (Josh) Braulick, Ann Tauer (special friend Scott Braun), Chris (Tina) Nachreiner, Curt (Lisa)Nachreiner, Rachel (Duane) Oftedahl, Rebecca (Craig) Trebesch, Justin (Sara) Weiss, Ryan Fischer, Jesse Fischer (special friend Mallory Grunke), Alexa Fischer, Sarah (Eric)Mortwedt, Danielle Hildebrandt, Ethan Hildebrandt (fiance Karlee Sieve), Jenna Ruud, Jessica Ruud, Jason Ruud, Tyler Hietanen, Jennifer (Rick) Hinderman, Stephanie (Jared) Nord, and Jamie Stimpert, 38 great-grandchildren: Leah, Emily and Kaleb Weiss, Thor and Toby Weiss, Owen, Nell and Emmet Weiss, Kyle, Brandon and Katelyn Tauer, Ashtyn Tauer, Carter, Blake and Emma Tauer, Colton Braulick, Ryder Braun, Ella and Sofia Nachreiner, Maddy, Lydia, Kellan and Sylvia Nachreiner, Gavin and Trindon Oftedahl, Evan and Liam Trebesch, Carson, Tegan and Jacoby Weiss, Easton Cobb, Landon and Jacey Mortwedt, Kenedi Wersal and Logan Hinderman, Brooklyn and Ava Nord, brother, Sylvester Weiss of St. James, sisters: Viola Krueger of Sleepy Eye, Lillian Riebel of Sleepy Eye, Margaret McSherry of FL, Mary Doyle of Sleepy Eye and Florence Current of Delano, sister-in-laws: Karen Weiss, Mildred (Norman) Taylor, Burnette Sieg, Carol Sieg, Judy Athman and Sharon Sieg. He was preceded in death by his wife Monica of 54 years, son Linus Weiss Jr., son-in-laws: Rick Fischer and Timothy Nachreiner, brother Victor Weiss, brother-in-laws: Leo Krueger, Frank Wensauer, Walt Riebel, John McSherry, James Doyle,William Current, Leo Sieg, Frederick Sieg, Eugene Sieg and Kenneth Sieg, sister-in-laws: Rita Kleis and Mary Knickerbocker.
