Lester Edwin Rupp

July 4, 1939 — February 18, 2020

Lester Edwin Rupp was born on July 4, 1939 to Emil and Marie (Rahn) Rupp in Mountain Lake. He spent his entire life there except for two years in Canada in 1W service and his final year in Eden Prairie. He was baptized in 1955 at Bethel Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake where he was a lifelong member and faithful volunteer. His activities varied from the Children's Sermon to building and fixing most anything. Following his graduation from Mountain Lake High School in 1958, he worked as a farm hand on a number of farms. His main occupation was working at the lumber yard for over forty years with a specialty of building trusses. His building talents can be seen in the town gazebo, his house that he built and in many other places. Lester's talents and hobbies were many. He loved nature and was especially knowledgeable and interested in birds. He gave many presentations to groups of varying ages using his slides and music. As he said he loved to observe God's creation. In 2011 he was honored by the Cottonwood County Historical Society with an artist exhibit featuring his photographs and many other projects. He was active in and often an officer in the Southwest Minnesota Nature Club (later called Cottonwood County Bird Club). History and genealogy were additional interests and he was often referred to as "town historian". He volunteered at the Heritage Village and also during Pow Wow displaying his extensive collection of town memorabilia. His town honors included being Grand Marshall of the Pow Wow parade and also was named "Person of the Year". He loved to bike and camp. He did those activities either alone or with family and friends. After retirement he could be seen roller blading down Mountain Lake streets. Lester never married but was an integral part of his extended families. He leaves to mourn, his brother, Robert (Esther) Rupp of Wyzata, MN; sister, Marilyn (Dennis) Franz of Bloomington, MN; nieces, Michelle Franz of Bloomington, Colleen (Steve) Casto of Robbinsdale, MN; nephews, Andrew (Gary Tjia) Rupp of Minneapolis, MN and Byron (Alyssa) Rupp of Andover, KS. He will also be missed by many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Rupp and sister-in-law Anne Rupp. Lester's family wishes to thank the caregivers at the Good Samaritan Lodge in Mountain Lake and Castle Ridge Care Center in Eden Prairie.
