Lester William Maker was born August 28, 1913, on the family farm in Johnsonville Township, Redwood County, the son of Frank and Lydia (Bittner) Maker. He was baptized and confirmed at Johnsonville Church. Lester graduated from Lamberton High School in 1932 and was united in marriage to Cleo Lavonne Splinter on September 4, 1954, in Wabasso. The couple continued to farm in Johnsonville Township until retiring and moving into Lamberton in 1979. Lavonne died in 1987. Lester was then married to Hazel Hickey on April 6, 1991, at the Lamberton United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Lamberton United Methodist Church for over 61 years and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and gardening. Lester William Maker died Sunday, September 16, 2007, at Valley View Manor in Lamberton at the age of 94 years. He is survived by wife- Hazel of Lamberton; children- Jon and wife Rhonda Maker of Marshall, Darla and husband Gary Morken of Cottonwood, and Lori and husband Joel Johnson of Eden Prairie; grandchildren- Andrea (Troy) Benson, Eric Morken, Ashley Morken, Adam Maker, and Dominic Johnson; step-children- Roger and wife Betty Okins, Roy Okins, Ruth and husband Bruce Birkholz, Bob Okins, Ralph (Duke) and wife Ann Okins, and their families; and sister- Cecelia (Dr. H.W.) Hankins of Sylvania, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife- Cleo Lavonne Maker in 1987; and brothers- Elmer and Alvin. Memorials are preferred to the Lamberton United Methodist Church.
