Lester Milton King was born October 19, 1924 in Darfur, MN to William and Emma (Heller) King. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Butterfield. He attended school in Butterfield through ninth grade. Les worked for farmers in the area until he joined the Merchant Marines in WWll. He was sent to the South Pacific. Upon his return he enlisted in the army and was given an honorable discharge after completing his service. Les was employed at Miller's grocery store in Butterfield, Ralph's Super Value (Tauer's) and Johnson's Hardware Store in St. James before retiring. Lester served as a church elder, usher and stewardship elder at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in St. James. He sang in the choir and the male chorus. Les enjoyed traveling, playing guitar for family and teasing. Lester is survived by a cousin, ,nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Hazel Vogel, and brothers Arnold, Chester, Harlan and Melvin (Petie) King, and special double cousin, Althier Heller.
