Lester was born and raised in the area of New Ulm, MN. After being discharged from the Army, he moved to the Twin Cities where he met and married the love of his life, Agnes Lutz. They raised four sons and one daughter in Maplewood, and Lester retired from Polar Chevrolet where he worked many years doing auto body repair. Upon retirement he and Agnes moved to Hugo and then onto Springfield. After Agnes passed away Lester lived out his days in Coon Rapids. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes; his brother, Herb Dietl, and sister, Arlene Schewe; and granddaughter, Sheila. He is survived by his brother, Leonard Johnson, and sister, Alice Evers. He is survived by five children: Gary (Judy) Johnson, Steven Johnson, Jeff Johnson (Shirley), Daniel Johnson, and Denise Johnson (Brad). He is survived by seven grandchildren: April Kershaw, Charisse Craven, Briana Johnson, Michelle Letendre, Evan Johnson, Daniel Johnson, and Emily Johnson. Also, he is survived by six great-grandchildren: Katie Kershaw, Paige Kershaw, Andre Iverson, Alecxander Head, Aurelia Craven, and Lana Lawler. Lester liked to hunt but he loved very much to catch himself a nice walleye. He was a member of the Springfield VFW before moving back up to the Cities. One of his favorite hobbies was to play horseshoes which he did so competitively for several years in Maplewood. In his later years he liked making trips to the casino and winning at the slot machines along with spending time at his daughter's cabin. Lester was a gentle man with both a very sweet disposition and kind heart along with a great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed by many whose lives he touched with his great smile and happy go lucky attitude. Lester died on January 4, 2017, at his home in Coon Rapids, MN.
