Leroy Swanson

Funeral services for LeRoy A. Swanson, of Butterfield, will be at 1:00PM, Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Augustana Lutheran Church in St. James with Rev. Lowell Asplund officiating. Burial will follow at West Sveadahl Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 4:00PM until 7:00PM and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice. LeRoy Swanson passed away on Saturday, August 18, 2007 at the St. James Health Services Hospital in St. James at the age of 80 years. LeRoy was born December 22, 1926 on the family farm near Sveadahl, MN to parents Carl and Amanda (Warner ) Swanson. He grew up in the Sveadahl area where he attended rural school. He served in the military from March 1945 to November 1946. He returned to the family farm after his military service where he continued to work and live until his death. LeRoy was an active member of the community belonging to several civic organizations. He was on the Boards of West Sveadahl Lutheran Church and the Church Cemetery for several years. He enjoyed watching sports he especially enjoyed watching fast pitch softball. He also enjoyed hunting and bowling. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clifford and Evert, sister Pauline Johnson, and a great-great niece Tanya and great-great nephew Nicholas. He is survived by his niece and husband, Carol and Tom Frederick and their family and children, Lisa and Dennis Cummiskey and their children Molly, Casie and Tara of St. Peter, Tom, Jr. and Julie Frederick and their children Kayla and Marissa of Mankato, Gwen Frederick of Mankato, Judy and Rick Einck and their children Sam, Brady, Grace and Leo of Ausin, Jill and Troy Keach and their children Hannah and Katie of Zumbrota.
