Leonard H. Polzin, 81, of Springfield, MN died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at his home in Springfield, MN. Leonard Harold Polzin was born May 1, 1926 to Carl and Florence (Wright) Polzin in his parent's home in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, step-son of Marie (Fuenffinger) Polzin. He was baptized in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Jeffers. He attended school through the 7th grade. One June 7, 1950 Leonard was united in marriage to Elaine Mary Turbes at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Jeffers. This marriage was blessed with 12 children. Leonard was in the U.S. Army from November 1944 through August 1946 and spent some of that time serving in France, Switzerland and Germany. Leonard worked on the farm for his father and brothers and did custom baling for a number of years. Leonard and Elaine moved to Windom in 1951 and worked for Toro for one year. Then he went to work for Sharkey and Mann as an auto mechanic and Delton Horkey as a carpenter. He also worked for Anhydrous Amonia as a salesman before going to work for Moores Manufacturing as a welder and machinist until 1963. Then they moved to Northfield and he went to work for Trinity Steel as a welder. In 1964, Leonard went to work as a maintenance man at Malt-O-Meal, where he worked for 25 years and retired in 1989. Leonard and Elaine moved to Springfield in 2004. Leonard was a member of the Knights of Columbus and also a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. Leonard loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed traveling. He also loved to play cards and go dancing. Leonard is survived by his wife, Elaine, 12 children and their spouses - James (Sue) of Portland, Or; Gary (Lynette) of Northfield, MN; Darrell (Karen) of Bloomington, MN; Brian (Mary) of Burnsville, MN; Mark (Mary) of Northfield, MN; Jodelle (Curt) Marcus of Willmar; Mary Anne (Robbie) Reynolds of Fairview, NC; Tom (Brenda) of Faribault, MN; Cressie (Randy) Etringer of Olive Branch, MS; Robert (Cathy) of Ventura, CA; Scott (Bobbijo) of Northfield, MN and Kim of Northfield, MN; 26 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; brothers - Dale (Clare) of Lamberton and Larry of Jeffers; sisters-in-law - Lucille of Windom, Velva Jean of Ringstead, Lorraine of New Ulm; brother-in-law - Dave Buhr of Blaine and many nieces and nephews. Leonard is preceded in death by his parents, step-mom, 5 brothers and 2 sisters - Fremont, Delbert, Lester, Orville, Myron, Marcella Buhr and infant sister.
