Leona A. Seidl

Leona was born March 24, 1916 in Mulligan Township, Sleepy Eye, MN to Andrew and Wilhelamina "Minnie" B. (Reiniger) Sellner. She received her education from St. Mary's schools in Sleepy Eye graduating in 1934. Leona completed Teachers Training Program in 1935. She taught school in District 46, Mulligan Township for two years. On May 31, 1937 Leona married Leonard H. Seidl at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. They farmed for 40 years in the Sleepy Eye and Hanska areas before retiring to Sleepy Eye in 1977. During her lifetime, Leona was a devoted member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Catholic Aid Association, the Christian Mothers Society, the Schonstatt Movement and a church sacristan. Leona was a 4-H leader for the Stark Happy Hustlers Club for 61 years. She also enjoyed playing cards, sewing, crocheting, canning, baking, gardening and especially caring for her roses. Leona was often times called upon for to share her knowledge of family and local history. Leona is survived by her children, Mary Catherine Bauer, Mildred (Dennis) Rosenhammer and Leonard (Marge) Seidl all of Sleepy Eye, Margaret Bauer, Monica (Richard) Mueller, Mike (Judy) Seidl and Maurice (Brenda) Seidl all of New Ulm, Rosanne (Jerry) Fix of Redwood Falls, Marcia (Dave) Ward of Eyota, Mark (Peggy) Seidl and Myron (Cathy) Seidl of Hanska, 39 grandchildren, 75 great grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren and sister-in-law Catherine Sellner. She is preceded in death by her husband, brothers Andrew and Phillip Sellner, and son-in-laws, Stanley Bauer and Larry Bauer.
