Leona Mae Resick

Leona Mae Resick, 89, of St. James, died July 5, 2023, at Living Meadows in Madelia. Visitation will take place from 9-10 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at the St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in St. James. Arrangements are with Sturm Funeral Home in St. James.

Leona was born July 15, 1933, to Frederick and Mamie (Zeller) Miller in Watertown, SD. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1951. On December 29, 1956, Leona married LaVerne Resick. Together, they raised four children.

Leona worked for Tony Downs Foods for 41 years, retiring in 2004. She was a member of the VFW woman’s auxiliary and volunteered at the St. James Hospital. Leona was also an active member of the St. James Catholic Church in all aspects. Leona had many hobbies. When she wasn’t with family, she enjoyed spending time reading, embroidering towels, watching game shows, and going to the casino with her friends.

Leona is survived by her children, Randy (Laurie) of Guthrie, OK, Steve (Dee) of Kimball, SD, Terry (Peggy) of St. James, and Judy (Bob) Franklin of Sleepy Eye; grandchildren, Danielle (Bill), Jordan (Tonya), Andrew, Samantha (Ryan), Brandon, Austin (Hannah), and Tyler; great grandchildren, Brody, Garrett, Jayde, and Maddie; sister, Sr. Marietta; brother, Bob (Jeanie) Miller; and sister-in-law, Karen Miller.

Leona was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LaVerne; and brothers, Luvern (Teresa) and Bill Miller.
