There will be a Christian Mother's Rosary at 4:00 PM on Thursday at the funeral home. Leona Marie (Schmit) Lunz was born January 20, 1935 to Emil and Annie (Tiedeken) Schmidt near Madelia, MN. She received her education in Catholic School in Madelia. Leona lived in Madelia, Mankato and St. James, MN. She worked as a waitress at the Watonwan Caf for two years, where she met Warren Lunz. On November 19, 1955 Leona and Warren were married at the St. James Catholic Church. They made their life and home on a farm west of St. James. Leona was active in her church, was a member of Catholic Daughters, volunteered at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society, Extension Club, card club and bowling league. She spent time doing plastic canvas craft and camping. Her dogs were a source of great joy. Leona died on Sunday, May 10, 2009 at the Pleasant View Good Samaritan Society in St. James. She attained the age of 74 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Dorothy Schmit; and a brother sister-in-law, George and Betty Brugger. Leona is survived by her husband, Warren Lunz of St. James; two children, Joe Lunz of St. James, and Kathy Finnegan and her husband Dan of Sioux Falls, SD; four grandchildren; a great grandson; a brother-in-law, Elroy Lunz and his wife Phyllis of St. James; many other relatives and fiends.
