Leon Charles Bushard was born February 4, 1934, in West Newton Township, MN the son of Arthur and Clara (Mueller) Bushard. Leon graduated from New Ulm Cathedral High School in 1952, then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served for 20 1/2 years and was stationed in Alaska, Illinois, Michigan, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, and Korea. Leon retired from the USAF in 1972, and worked for Wallner Construction in New Ulm and SMC in Mankato before fully retiring in 2004. He was united in marriage to Alyce Moldaschel on April 9, 1958. Following Alyce's death, Leon married Marie Sellner on November 15, 1966, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, VFW Honor Guard, and the DAV. Leon was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Catholic Aid Association, and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed being a carpenter, bowling, fishing, playing cards, spending time at the lake, baseball, horseshoes, and crosswords. Leon especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Leon Bushard died Monday, May 14, 2012, at his home at the age of 78 years. He is survived by wife Marie of Sleepy Eye; daughters- Laurie and husband Greg Edick of Gibbon, and Lisa and husband Todd Thoms of Maplewood; sons- Robert of Anoka, Daniel and wife Denise of Maplewood, and Kevin and wife Martha of Northfield; grandchildren- Shelly, Elizabeth, Matthew, Alicia, Amber, David, Nate, Tanner, Bryce, Riley, Tyler, Alyssa, Scott, Sean, and Seth; great-grandchildren- Dylan and Landon; sisters- Jeanne (John) Kretsch of New Ulm, Vonnie (Mike) Esser of New Ulm, and Dodie (Pete) Wendinger of New Ulm; sisters-in-law- Angie Bushard of New Ulm, Jane Moldaschel of Sleepy Eye, Alice (Lenny) Walter of Clements, and Lois (Gordy) Kuelbs of New Ulm; brothers-in-law- Julian Griebel of New Ulm, LeRoy Bastian of New Ulm, and Charles Sellner of Sleepy Eye; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Alyce; brother Marlon; sister Lucille Griebel; niece Colleen Moldaschel; brother-in-law James Moldaschel; sister-in-law Phyllis Bastian; and fathers and mothers-in-law- John and Mary Moldaschel, and Florian and Florence Sellner.
