Leo Boldt

Leo Norman Boldt, the son of Nickolas and Marie (Klassen) Boldt was born on July 11, 1927 in Mountain Lake, MN. He grew up in Delft, MN until the age of 14, when they moved to Bingham Lake, MN. Leo received his education in Delft and Bingham Lake, and at the age of 17 he joined the U.S. Navy. He served as a cook on three ships over three years. On February 14, 1949 Leo was united in marriage to Thelma Olson at the Lutheran Church in Windom, MN. They made their home in Mountain Lake, where Leo owned City Service service station, worked at the Wolff Station, owned the Mountain Lake Bowling Alley, worked for the Cooperative Oil Association (now Country Pride Services) for 50 years, and raised mink. He enjoyed boxing and teaching boxing, and in 1954 Leo was a Golden Gloves Feather Weight Champion. He was a member of the Mountain Lake Fire Department for 24 years and served as Fire Chief, and was a member of the VFW. Leo loved to golf, hunt and fish, spend time at their cabin on Fish Lake, camping, and bowling. He was a pilot and gave many exciting trips to relatives and friends. Leo died at the age of 81, on Monday evening, November 17, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Village in Mountain Lake. Leo is survived by his wife Thelma Boldt of Mountain Lake; four children, Bruce Boldt and his wife Jen of Windom, MN, Bryce Boldt and his friend Janet Wolff of Mountain Lake, Merle Boldt and his wife Cindi of Mountain Lake, and Sheila Boldt of Yuma,CO; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 7 God Children; a brother, Dennis Boldt and his wife Juanita of Mankato, MN; a sister, Marlene Rachie of Edina, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Loren Boldt and Lester Boldt.
