Lena Ayres

October 10, 1916 — April 25, 2006

Lena Emma Ayres was born on October 10, 1916 in Lamberton, the daughter of Julius and Helena (Gade) Pfarr. She attended country school near Lamberton. On April 3, 1941 she married Joseph Ayres in Wanda. While Joseph was in the Army, Lena lived and worked in California. The couple returned to a farm near Sanborn and later moved to a farm near Lamberton. Lena was a lifelong member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church and taught Sunday School for many years. She enjoyed reading the Bible, cooking, sewing, farming, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Lena died on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the Westbrook Hospital at the age of 89 years. She is survived by her children - Marlys and husband Bill Blanchette of Storden, Louise and husband Charlie Taylor of Storden, Isabelle Olsen and her friend - Gerald Parker of Storden, Richard and wife Sandy Ayres of Worthington, and Jean and husband Paul Leopold of Heron Lake; grandchildren - Ronnie, Carmen, Penny, Kevin, Darla, Dawn, Paula, Terri, Nicole, Tori, Stacey, Shannon, Heidi, Candi, Brandie, Seve, Jason, Misty, Amanda, and Jessica; 23 great grandchildren; a brother - David Pfarr of Lamberton; and a sister-in-law - Adele Pfarr of Lamberton. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband - Joseph in 1965; son - Donald Ayres; a great grandson - Aaron; and brothers and sisters.
