Leland C. Johnson age 91, of Mountain Lake, Minnesota died on November 18, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Service will be held at the American Lutheran Church, Windom, MN on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 1:00 pm. Visitation will take place at the church prior to the service from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm.
The clergy will be Rev. Adam Roberts. Interment will be at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Odin, Minnesota.
Arrangements are with the Sturm Funeral Home in Mountain Lake. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sturmfh.com.
Leland Carlton Johnson was born in Long Lake Township, rural Odin, MN to Albert and Linnea Johnson on November 1, 1933. After Leland finished with his schooling, he worked for Thiesen Implement assembling equipment and worked for MN DOT for ten years before taking over the family dairy farm in rural Mountain Lake. On June 2, 1957 he married Barbara Penoyer at the Methodist Church in Windom, MN. He and Barbara worked on the dairy farm together for many years. After his retirement he drove truck and was a school bus driver in Mountain Lake and in Arizona. In his later years Leland wintered in Arizona where he stayed busy with activities and became a regular participant in karaoke parties. He was an avid fisherman and in his free time, he loved to take fishing trips up north with his sons for walleyes and northerns. He enjoyed collecting agates and rocks. He was also a very competitive pool player and was dedicated to playing the game every day.
Leland is survived by his children, Steve (Marcia) Johnson of St Joseph, MN, James (Debra) Johnson, Kevin (Kathy) Johnson, Cindy (Tom) Quiring, Julie (Larry) Falk - all of Mt Lake; 15 grandchildren, Lisa (Jamie) Becker, Mitchell (Maria) Johnson , Brooke (Cullen) Olson, Jessica (Jeremy) Williams, Naomi (Derek) Youngren, Jaclyn (Shawn) Gossen, Spencer (Beth) Johnson, Vincent (Brittany) Johnson, Jacob (Elizabeth) Johnson, Megan (Ike) Pohlman, Hannah (Thor) Kurtz, Heath (Taylor) Quiring, Hunter (Laura) Quiring, Joshua (Courtney) Falk, and Mikayla (Andrew) Hempeck; 36 great-grandchildren; brother, Lester (Judi) Johnson; sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson and brother-in-law, David Nelson. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Johnson; parents, Albert and Linnea Johnson; brothers, Verne Johnson, George (Clara) Johnson, and sisters, Lorraine (Conrad) Sandberg, Ardella Nelson, and Darlene (August) Kunkel.
