Lee Etta Lastine, age 80, of St. James, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at the First Presbyterian Church in St. James with Rev. David Lick officiating. Visitation will be Thursday at Sturm Funeral Home in St. James from 5-8 pm and at the church on Friday one hour before services. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Lee Etta Emily Shaffer was born on November 10, 1940, at her home in Mountain Lake, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Ella (Johnson) Shaffer. She graduated from Butterfield High School in 1958. Lee Etta attended business college in Mankato, MN. She worked a couple of years at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. She was united in marriage to James Michael Lastine on December 31, 1963 in Sioux Falls, SD. They made their home in St. James where she worked for Tony Downs Foods and later worked for Adella Lastine at the Montgomery Wards store. The majority of her working years was with Curry Sanitation in St. James as a bookkeeper for 35 years. Lee Etta was previously an active member of the United Methodist Church in St. James, MN She served faithfully in many ways including teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir. Lee Etta was currently an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in St. James. She served as an Elder and Deacon for many years. She served meals on wheels to many folks in the community and always looked forward to helping to serve Thanksgiving Dinner at the Church on Thanksgiving Day. Lee Etta was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary, serving in many different capacities. She loved to do cross-stitch, always did the daily crossword puzzle from the newspaper, she loved to read and travel especially to the many Shaffer Family Reunions. She dearly loved her family and friends. Now she is rejoicing in Heaven with all that have went before her, including walking hand in hand with her granddaughter Sadie Jo. Lee Etta is survived by her husband James Lastine, her son Kris (Lisa Heinis) Lastine of Red Wing, MN, her daughter Kim (Craig) Nelson of St. James, MN, grandson David (Courtney) Nelson and great grandkids Ian, Alayna Nelson, 4 step-grandchildren and 15 step-great-grandchildren, siblings Edith (Phil) Leggett of Salem, OR, Roger (Tami) Shaffer of Thief River Falls, MN, and sisters-in-law Karen Shaffer of Naples, FL, Kay Lastine of Lake City, MN, brother-inlaw Tom (Tootie) Lastine of Hanska, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Ella Shaffer, in-laws Gordon and Adella Lastine, brothers Ken (JoAnn) Shaffer, Norman (Mary) Shaffer, Robert Shaffer, brothers-in-law Bill Lastine, Dan Lastine, her granddaughter Sadie Jo Nelson and a nephew Keith Shaffer.
