Lee Belgard, age 74, of Madelia, died on Friday, October 7, 2011, of ALS at the Madelia Community Hospital in Madelia. Lee Belgard was born February 16, 1937, in Mankato to Harold and Evelyn (Wilson) Belgard. He grew up on the family farm graduating from Garden City High School. On October 19, 1957, Lee was united in marriage to Zada Sowers. The couple made their home and farmed near Garden City. They later moved to rural Madelia where he farmed until his retirement. Lee farmed, worked at LaSalle Farmers Grain and drove truck for the chemical plant. Lee served on the Board of the LaSalle Elevator for six years, Lincoln Township Board for 21 years, was a 4-H Leader and served on the Pastor Parish Board at church. He enjoyed sports; still playing basketball, softball and golf. He was a competitor.... He also loved to play cards, go fishing and hunting. He put many miles on his golf cart in the past weeks enjoying the outdoors. Lee helped Zada with crafting and enjoyed making new friends at the shows. He and Zada spent the last 9 years wintering in Mesa. Lee is survived by his wife Zada Belgard of Madelia, daughters, Deb (Bob) Allen of Savage, Becky ( Doug) Sailor of Prior Lake, six grandchildren, Amanda, Brett and Carissa Allen, Michelle and Rachel Sailor, Coreena Davidson, several nieces and nephews. Also, two brothers, Harlan (Janet) Belgard of Amboy and Hugh (Vail) Belgard of Garden City. Lee is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Evelyn Belgard.
