Leander G. Sellner was born on January 14, 1931 in Leavenworth Township, the son of Albert Sophie (Mathiowetz) Sellner. He grew up on a farm near Leavenworth. He graduated from St. Mary's High School. He attended two years of seminary in Nazareth Hall at St. Paul, then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. Leander married Mary Reiff on July 17, 1965 in Leavenworth, MN. The couple made their home in Sleepy Eye where Leander was self employed as a carpenter. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Catholic Aid and sang in the Caecelian Choir. He was also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He played baseball and fast pitch softball and umpired baseball and softball for many years. He also ran the scoreboard at ballgames. Leander loved fishing, reading and visiting friends and family. Sellner, 75, of Sleepy Eye died on Wednesday, September 13, 2006 at Gil-Mor Manor Nursing Home in Morgan, MN Survivors include his wife, Mary Sellner of Sleepy Eye, children, Mona Pearson of Monticello, MN, Steve Lisa Sellner of Blaine, MN, grandchildren, Allyson and Ryan Sellner, brothers and sisters, Lawrence Nadine Sellner of Springfield, Elaine Merle Schueler of Sleepy Eye, Robert Brother Martin Sellner of St. Paul, Jerome Janice Sellner of New Ulm, Albert Sellner of Springfield, Erving Sellner of Hector, brother-in-law, Norbert Wersal of Springfield and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Vernard Sellner and sister, Viola Wersal.
