Lawrence Landsteiner

Lawrence Larry Landsteiner, age 77, of St. James, died on Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James. A Christian Mothers Rosary will be recited Monday at 5pm at the funeral home. Lawrence (Larry) George Landsteiner was born on May 3, 1934 to Frank and Anna (Sturm) Landsteiner in St. James. He graduated from St. James High School in 1952. He was united in marriage to Jean Engelking on April 21, 1956. Larry worked at the St. James Bottling Company after graduation. He served in the U.S. Army as a military policeman in Honolulu from 1957 to 1959. Larry was later employed as a custodian at the St. James Catholic School from 1959 to 1969. In 1969, he joined IDS as a sales representative until 1979. He was a self-employed painter for several years and a substitute mail carrier until becoming a full time mail carrier in 1989. Larry was a member of the St. James Catholic Church, a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and belonged to the St. James American Legion. He enjoyed many activities during his lifetime including fishing, camping, bowling, playing cards, bird watching, gardening, woodworking and playing bingo. He was an avid Twins and Vikings fan. Larry liked driving for senior citizens and loved visiting with people. His family was his greatest blessing. Larry is survived by his wife, Jean, two daughters, Laurie Brandt, (fiance Loren Hill), of Blaine, Linda of Chanhassen, 2 sons, Larry (Martha) of Broken Arrow, OK, Lee (Denise) of Paynesville, 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one sister, Frances (Glenn) Strauser of Arroyo Grande, CA.He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law, Carol Schultz, brother-in-law, Dennis Engelking and niece Rhonda Engelking.
