LaVonne Elaine (Lundquist) Breckenridge was born on September 25, 1927, in Cedar Township, Iowa, to Clarence and Nellie (Reimers) Lundquist. She graduated from Excelsior High School in rural Lake Park, Iowa, on May 17, 1945. She then attended business school in Mankato, MN. After graduating, she went to work as a bookkeeper for the Jake DeMann Chevrolet Garage in Dundas, MN. She met William “Bill” Breckenridge there, and they married on May 17, 1947 at the Little Prairie Church outside of Dundas. The family moved to Madelia in 1963.
In Madelia, she worked as the bookkeeper for Breckenridge Garage and John Breckenridge Trucking Inc., as well as for Paul Tande at the Triangle Cafe. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and served as secretary/treasurer for many years. She was also a member of United Methodist Women, Sorosis, and Extension. She enjoyed traveling to many areas of the country attending Bill’s Navy reunions with him. She was very proud of having donated 13 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross over her lifetime.
