Lavon Engeswick

Lavon Frances (Bloedow) Engeswick was born on January 7, 1923, in Lamberton, MN, to John C. 'Jack' and Maude (Perry) Yackel. Lavon was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Lamberton. She married Fernie Bloedow on Oct. 9, 1940, and Russell Engeswick on Sept. 8, 1981. Von was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lamberton and sang in the church choir for 57 years, was active in the Ladies Aid for 60 years, taught Sunday School for 32 years, and also served as church treasurer. She enjoyed singing, fishing, gardening, reading, sewing, and visiting with people. Lavon died on Monday, January 29, 2007, at Valley View Manor Care Center in Lamberton at the age of 84 years. She is survived by her special friend - Gerda Calkins; children - Eva (Dennis) Harder of New Ulm, Beverly (Thomas Kovar) Bloedow of Maple Grove, and Vernon Bloedow of Lamberton; step-children - Jay (Lynette) Engeswick, Rozie (Elmer) Jeckell; 10 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and sisters - Eva (Rueben) Dallmann, Cheryl Essig, Ruth Merringer, and Annette (Loren) Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; daughter - Janet Rippentrap; and a great granddaugher - Kristen Erickson.
