Lavern Schmit

Lavern William was born on March 26th, 1934, in Lucan, MN the son of John Ann (Hammerschmidt) Schmit. He attended school in Nicollet and Wabasso through the 8th grade. Lavern married Harriet Chroup on June 23rd, 1955, at the St. John's Catholic Church in Morton, MN. The couple made their home in Springfield for over 40 years where Lavern worked in construction and also for Sanborn Manufacturing for a number of years retiring in 1996. Lavern was a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church in Springfield. He enjoyed woodworking, carpentry, playing cards and old time music. Lavern W. Schmit, age 72, of Springfield, MN died on Sunday, February 4, 2007, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, MN Survivors include his wife, Harriet of Springfield, children, Curtis (Mary) Schmit of Randolph, WI, Charles Schmit of Olivia, MN, Pamela (Tom) May of North Mankato, MN, Terry (Debra) Schmit of New Ulm, MN and Scott Schmit of Springfield, MN, 14 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, brothers, Jerome (Mary) Schmit of Redwood Falls, MN and Roger Schmit of Jamestown, ND. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Connie Shrode and mother and father-in-law, Myrtle Henry Chroup.
