Kenneth Walton Posz was born on August 3, 1921 at the family home in Sanborn, MN, the son of Leslie and Viella (Walton) Posz. He was baptized on June 24, 1922 at the United Methodist Church in Sanborn, MN where he has been a lifelong member. Ken joined the U.S. Army on July 8, 1942, serving in the 85th Division, 339th Infantry as a Quartermaster Supply Technician and received a Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on October 30, 1945. Ken was united in marriage to Phyllis Dahmes on September 2, 1950 at the New Avon Evangelical Church in Wabasso, MN. Ken was a 65 year member of the Grand Lodge #167 and Fides Lodge #246. He was initiated on May 5, 1947, passed 2nd degree on October 6, 1947, and raised to Master Mason Degree on December 1, 1947. Ken was Secretary of Fides Lodge for 35 years, during the time when the Col. Ladd Trust was setup. This is a great instrument that the community and many families have benefitted from. Ken held all of the offices, elected and appointed, in Fides Lodge #246 in Sanborn. Ken was accepted into the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry on April 27, 1991. Ken has been a much respected and well known Mason in the area of Free Masonery in southern Minnesota. He served as Treasurer and other offices at the United Methodist Church in Sanborn and after his retirement participated on mission trips with Phyllis for 10 years in Jamaica, Alaska, Maine, Mississippi, Arkansas and Georgia. Ken also was a member of the Sanborn American Legion, Red Rock Ducks Unlimited, Military Order of the Purple Heart, Inc., USA, the Sanborn Commercial Club, and the Sanborn Volunteer Fire Department. Ken enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, watching the MN Twins and his grandchildren playing sports. Ken died on Monday, September 19, 2011 at the Sunwood Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Redwood Falls, MN at the age of 90 years. He is survived by his wife - Phyllis Posz; children - Thomas (Eunice Moyer) Posz, Pat (Gary) Roiger, Peggy (Glenn) Morris, Mary (Jeff) Shaner, and Richard (Cary) Posz; 15 grandchildren - Matt, Julia, Nathan, Alicia, Nick, Amber, Neil, Ashley, Abbi, Marguerite, Karie, Kelly, Alexys, Courtney, and Jordyn; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother - John Posz.
