Kathryn M. Hanson was born October 9, 1911, in Sleepy Eye, MN, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Sellner) Zwaschka. She graduated from Sleepy Eye High School and then attended Normal School. Kathryn taught at District #48 School in Johnsonville Township before her marriage to Fred Hanson on June 16, 1937, at the Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Lucan. Following marriage, the couple farmed and shelled corn southeast of Wanda. They then operated a cafe in Lucan for a while, then moved to Walnut Grove where Kathryn was a cook at a cafe. They also lived in Currie and Revere before retiring and moving to West Port Lake. During the winters, Kathryn would cook at resorts in Florida. They moved to Lamberton in 1991. Fred died in 1993 and Kathryn moved to Valley View Manor in May of 2004. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidery, cooking, gardening and entertaining friends at their lake home. Kathryn Hanson died Thursday, November 17, 2005, at Valley View Manor at the age of 94 years. She is survived by many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law- Harold Hanson of Wabasso, Lester Hanson of Arco, and Luverne Hanson of Arco; and sister-in-law- Shirley Bistrup of Mankato. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband- Fred; sisters- Rosella Jacoby and Margaret Bauer; and brothers- Sylvester and Florian Zwaschka.
