Kathleen Utz

Kathleen Ann Utz was born to Adolph and Naomi Kurtti in Menaga, MN on March 4, 1950, and died Jan. 29, 2014, in Rochester, MN. Kathy attended school in Mahnomen, MN and graduated from Mahnomen High School in 1968. She spent many years in the Twin Cities area and worked for Benson Optical as an optician. She married Francisco Vargas in 1970 and they had two children. Kathy moved to Springfield, MN in 1986 where she worked as an optician at PBR. Kathy and Cletus Utz were married on August 5, 1989. They moved from Springfield to Twin Valley, MN in November 2003 and moved back to Springfield in 2010. Kathy enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, baking, and working with the craft group at St. Raphael's. Kathy is survived by her daughters Tanya (Dave) Whitney and Samantha Utz, grandchildren Trina, Chalina and Jonathan Whitney all of Madelia, MN. Kathy's surviving siblings are Shirley Wright of Forest Lake, MN; Beverly Sand of Shoreview, MN; Penny Gunderson of Brentwood, CA; John Kurtti (Jeanne) of Savage, MN. She is also survived by sister-in-law JoAnn Kurtti of Romeoville, IL, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Kathleen Utz was preceded in death by her husband Cletus, son Francisco Vargas, parents Adolph and Naomi Kurtti and brother Bruce.
