Kathleen “Kathy” Hedwig (Guggisberg) Helget, the daughter of Elmer and Priska (Klossner) Guggisberg, was born on May 19, 1944, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She graduated from New Ulm Cathedral High School in 1962. On August 27, 1963, Kathy married Dennis Helget and their marriage was blessed with five children. Dennis and Kathy farmed together for 61 years.
Kathy taught her family to appreciate life’s simplest blessings. She found joy in gardening, nurturing flowers, and creating a warm and welcoming home. Kathy embraced hard work and always found creative solutions to challenges. A talented cook, Kathy loved preparing healthy meals and personal, abundant lunches.
Kathy and Dennis cherished quiet time together at home, finding peace in each other’s company. She taught her children and grandchildren the value of hard work and gratitude. Kathy’s greatest legacy is the deep faith she shared with Dennis and those God put in her life. Together, she and Dennis prayed daily, lifting up their children, grandchildren, and those she promised to pray for. They spent many hours in devotion before the Blessed Sacrament.
Her compassion for others was rooted in her own struggles, which she faced with strength, courage, and grace. Kathy’s life was a reflection of faith, strength, and charity. We invite you to join her family in praying for the salvation of her soul, honoring the enduring faith she shared throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband Dennis; daughter Sue (Shannon) Rausch and their children Derek (Allison), Maria (Ian) Ollis, Andy (Maggie), Michael (Kaitlyn), Jacob (Christine), Peter (Melinda), and Kathryn (Simon) Bowar, son Rick (Becky) Helget and their children Elise (Michael) Sprenger, Molly, Megan, Dominic (Gianna), Anthony (fiancé Hannah Olson), Emily, Josie, Ethan and Ben, daughter Shelley (Peter) Roufs and their children Ellen (Ben) Hintz, Annie, Isaac (Arianna) and Adam, and son Brad Helget; twenty three great grandchildren and soon to be four more.
She was preceded in death by her daughter Shannon; grandson Aiden; parents Elmer and Priska Guggisberg; father and mother-in-law Alvin and Leona; brothers Walter, Linus, and Elmer; and sisters Evelyn Domeier, Lois Berg, and Shirley Braulick.
