Katharina Schmidt

Katharina Kate (Harder) Schmidt, the daughter of Henry D and Katharina (Sakau) Harder was born on September 18, 1907, in Butterfield Township, Watonwan County, MN. She received her education at the Mountain Lake Bible School and Watonwan CountyDistrict #30 Country School. On May 24, 1926, Kate was baptized upon confession of her faith by the Rev. I. J. Dick at the First Mennonite Church in Mountain Lake, and this is where she remained a life-long member. Kate was united in marriage toBenjamin Ben G. Schmidt on August 30, 1928, on her parents' farm near Butterfield, MN. They made their home and farmed together in the Mountain Lake area until moving into Mountain Lake in 1977. Ben died on May 17, 1990. Katharina Kate Schmidt, age 97, of Mountain Lake, MN, died on Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Windom Area Hospital in Windom, MN. Kate is survived by a son, Alvin and his wife Dorothy Schmidt of Mountain Lake, MN; a daughter, Gladys and her husband Ed Fast of Butterfield, MN; five grandchildren, Diane and husband Al Kirchner, Donna and husband Steve Poplow, LaVonne and husbandDavid Jungas, DeLyle and wife Luann Fast and LaRoy and wife Diane Fast; nine great grandchildren, Mike Friesen, April Poplow, Allen Poplow, Kimberly Jungas, Renee and husband Ryan Olson, Vicki and husband Brock Peterson, Ryan Fast, Katherine Fast andAngela Fast; a great great grandson, Calab Ryan Olson; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two brothers, Henry H. Harder and Peter H. Harder.
