Karen Marie Rasmussen was born July 12, 1949, in Crookston, MN, the daughter of Edward and Marie (Peppin) Hanson. Following her high school graduation in 1967, Karen lived in Minneapolis, Faribault, and St. James before moving to Sanborn in 1975. She was united in marriage to Frank 'Owen' Rasmussen on October 21, 1972, in Mentor, MN. In 1974 Karen gave birth to her only son - Edward in St. James, MN. Karen and Owen divorce in 1996, but remained friends. In 1996 Karen moved back to St. James and in 2001 she moved to Long Prairie. She worked at Valley View Manor in Lamberton, Pleasant View Good Samaritan Center in St. James and Long Prairie Memorial Home in Long Prairie before she retired in November of 2004. Karen was a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Sanborn and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, tatting, and jigsaw puzzles. Karen Marie Rasmussen died Wednesday, January 3, 2007, at the Long Prairie Memorial Hospital at the age of 57 years. She is survived by son- Edward of Long Prairie; mother- Marie Hanson of Trimont; brothers- Keith and wife Marsha Hanson of Oconomoak, WI, and Thomas and wife Dawn Hanson of Ormsby, MN; sisters- Theresa and husband Lee Stine of Thief River Falls, Wanda Firchau of St. James, Linda and husband Bruce Hanson of Landfall, MN, and Rose Hanson of Minneapolis; many nieces and nephews and a friend - Owen of Sanborn. She was preceded in death by father- Edward; paternal grandparents- George and Cecil Hanson; maternal grandparents- Arthur and Pearl Peppin; and sister- Kathy Moser.
