Karen M Coners

Karen Marie Coners was born on January 7, 1938, to Alfred and Viola (Moeller) Schmid in Springfield, MN.  She attended St. Raphael’s Catholic School and graduated from Springfield Public Schools.  On October 17, 1956, she was united in marriage to John Coners at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Springfield.  The couple raised their family in Cobden.  Karen was a mom of her own five children and was the neighborhood mom that the children loved.  She made sure all the children were entertained by playing games or taking them to the creek to play.  Karen was thrifty and frugal and made sure her family’s needs were met.   She enjoyed puzzles, knitting and crocheting, solving Rubik’s Cubes, gardening, drawing and painting, sewing, and reading.  Her family loved her apple pies and her pie crust cookies.  Even though Karen did not drive, she enjoyed going out for a ride around the countryside.

Karen died on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Home in Springfield, at the age of 85.

She is survived by her children Paul (Sue) Coners, Michelle (George) Tauer, Joe (Jessica) Coners, and Jon (Amy) Coners; son-in-law Butch Krebs; grandchildren - Nicole (Jason) Ward, Emily (Ryan) Ritchie, Ashley (Danny) Verdeja, Allison (Jake) Wiederin, Elizabeth (Anthony) Holloway, Libby Coners, Jacob and Riley Coners, and Traci Schroepfer; great grandchildren - Zander Coy, Hattie, Bentley, and Asher Ritchie, Estella Ward, Ruby, Lochlan, and Sylvie Wiederin, Ethan and Addison Holloway, Keaton and Brie Weston; sisters-in-law - Barb, Bona, and Dawn Schmid; and 2 lifelong friends Shirley and MaryAnn.  Karen was preceded in death by her parents, husband John in 2001, daughter Deanna Krebs in 1986, siblings - Russ, Kenneth, Robert, and Ted Schmid.
