Kaethe Morgan

Kaethe Morgan died at the age of 96 at Pleasant View in St. James, MN on January 31, 2021. She was born in Kolberg, Germany in 1924 to August and Berta Wolter. She had two sisters. After completing high school and business school, she worked as a teletype operator for two years. The Russians approaching from the east necessitated a move to western Germany. Kaethe found work at a US Air Force base in Cuxhaven where she met her future husband, Garland Morgan, who was stationed there. She came to the U.S. in 1947 and they settled in St. James, where Garland was from. They were married at Augustana Lutheran Church in September 1947 and raised four children; Jeffrey, Nancy, Patricia, and John. Kaethe was primarily a homemaker, but prior to having children and after they were grown, she held sales clerk jobs at various businesses. Even though she spoke limited English when she came here, Kaethe immersed herself into the life of the community and throughout the years was involved in Girl Scouts, Tuesday Club, Tri-county Human Services, City Planning Commission, Police Commission, school board, and WELCA and the funeral committee at Augustana. She enjoyed golfing, swimming, knitting, cross stitch, reading, bingo, and playing cards. She sewed clothes for herself and her daughters, and for others she knitted custom Christmas stockings and afghans and painted Easter eggs. After Garland's retirement, they did some travelling and eventually settled into the routine of spending winters in Arizona. Following Garland's death, Kaethe met Ron Ruff, who became a special friend/companion. They spent winters at his home in Texas. Kaethe is preceded in death by Garland, son Jeff, her family in Germany, and Ron. She is survived by daughters Nancy Pollock and Patricia Morgan, son John (Char- Andrew and Kayley), grandson Gustaf Pollock (Kayla and unborn child), granddaughter Anna Pollock Smith, and great-granddaughter Victoria Kaethe Smith.
