Julie McEdward

Julie E. McEdward, 89, of Welcome, Minnesota, died July 19, 2026, at Heartland Senior Living in Truman, Minnesota.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Sturm Funeral Home in Saint James with a Parish Rosary at 9:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint James Catholic Church in Saint James. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Saint James. Julie was born June 19, 1937, to Jose Luis Chavez and Elizabeth Evans in San Antonio, Texas. She attended school in the San Antonio area. She later married Donald McEdward. In the early 1970s, she and her family moved to Minnesota. Julie worked various jobs throughout her life, working hard and providing for her family. She cared deeply for her family, helping raise many grandchildren as well. Julie was referred to as "Ma" by all her children's friends and they continued to do so into their adulthood years. She enjoyed cooking, shopping, and dancing. Julie's children would describe her as selfless, always putting others before herself.

Julie is survived by her children, Donald (Laurie) McEdward, Steven (Maria Luisa) McEdward, Josephina (Greg Allen) Veigel, Thomas Chavez, Luis (Sharon) Chavez, and Diana (Emilo) Tobias; grandchildren, Freddy (Tonya) Bigbear, Savanna Moler, Brian McEdward, Jayme (Kyle) Sparby, Jill (Kirby) Moynagh, Cody McEdward, Elizabeth (Dan) Wolle, Sarah Carlson, Joseph Veigel, Ashley (Theron) Ibarra, Hunter Chavez, Owen Chavez, Suri Chavez Downey, Julia Chavez, and Abigaile Chavez; many loving great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Moi Evans, Lupe Evans, and Elizabeth Evans.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald McEdward; daughter, Georgia Theobald; grandchildren, Royce Allen and James Truado Chavez; and brother, Jose Luis Evans.
